Mini-course descriptions After registration below, you receive a mail asking which sessions you want to attend.

08:15 New users: Intro to COMSOL Multiphysics® This introductory demonstration will show you the fundamental workflow of the COMSOL Multiphysics® modeling environment.

08:15 Current users: Advanced session + News in 5.4 Current users, come and experience how you can get even more out of COMSOL Multiphysics®. Our focus will be on "best pratice" together with tips & tricks in all modeling steps. Further you will get up to speed with all the new features in the upcoming version COMSOL Multiphysics® 5.4

12:15 CFD & Chemical Engineering Here we will look into CFD and chemical engineering modeling capabilities including news in COMSOL Multiphysics® 5.4. Different kinds of flow will be discussed, e.g. laminar, turbulent, single- and multiphase flow, flow in porous media and rotating machinery... We will also discuss how to model to chemical reaction engineering in both perfectly mixed systems (0D) and how to couple reactions kinetics to CFD in 2D/3D.

12:15 Meshing and Geometry Often the default mesh settings does a good job creating a useful mesh, but when importing or drawing complex geometries, meshing can become a challenge. Likewise, if you have a prior knowledge about steep gradients in the solutions, you want to control the mesh in greater details. In this mini-course we will cover two main topics that can aid during meshing:
Preparing the geometry: you will learn how to use defeature and use virtual operations to prepare the geometry and make it better suited for meshing.
User controlled meshing: you will learn to utilize the different features to control and create a good mesh that meets your requirements.

14:00 Elektromagnetics AC/DC Here we look at how to design coils, capacitors, electro motors, generators and other low frequency components.
During this mini-course you will get an overview of simulating electromagnetics and see how to extract lumped values and how to couple to other physics like heat transfer for cooling and mechanical simulations including rotating or moving machinery.

14:00 Automating the model setup Some tasks are repetitive in nature; in this mini-course you will see how you can utilize model methods to automate part of the modeling process. You don’t have to be a programmer to utilize this, due to extensive help from “Record Method” and ”Editor Tools”. With the latest version this functionality has been greatly extended.

15:45 Structural Mechanics In this mini-course we look deeper into structural mechanics analysis. The topics include linear- and nonlinear structural materials, structural contact, how to combine rigid and flexible part, composite structures, static and dynamic analysis, Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI), thermal expansion, and more.

15:45 Optimization Optimization is a natural next step when you have built a model or virtual prototype, but optimization is also used during the modeling process to e.g. estimate material properties or working conditions from measurements.
During this mini-course you will get an overview of the various types of optimization areas and see how to optimize dimensional, shape and topological changes to your design. We will also look into sensitivity analysis on which parameters are important and parameter estimation on the unknown (Inverse problems).
