Learn the fundamental workflow of COMSOL Multiphysics®. This introductory demonstration will show you all of the key modeling steps, including geometry creation, setting up physics, meshing, solving, and postprocessing.

  • Shape and Topology Optimization

Get an overview of the shape and topology optimization capabilities available in the COMSOL® software for producing lightweight and more efficient designs. Shape optimization involves the free-form deformation of a CAD part by means of the mesh and geometry deformation tools in COMSOL Multiphysics® and the Optimization Module. Using just a few control variables, you can quickly come up with improved designs. Topology optimization is used to come up with entirely novel designs by allowing the material distribution within the modeling domain to vary.

COMSOL Speakers

Viswajith Hanasoge
Viswajith Hanasoge joined COMSOL in 2015 and currently works as a technical sales engineer. He received a master's degree in mechanical engineering from Arizona State University and his interests include solar energy, fluids, and thermal engineering.
Bjorn Sjodin
Bjorn Sjodin is the VP of product management at COMSOL. He has been with COMSOL since 1995 and started out as a member of the development team in Stockholm, Sweden. He joined the COMSOL office in Burlington in 2002.
Jinlan Huang
Jinlan Huang is an applications engineer for vibrations and acoustics and instructs acoustics and heat transfer training courses. She received her PhD from Boston University, Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, investigating acoustic wave propagation in complex-tissue environments and ultrasound-induced tissue heating and bleeding control. She joined COMSOL in 2011.
James Christopher
James Christopher has been with COMSOL since 2017 and is currently working as a sales representative for the province of Quebec and academic accounts in Massachusetts.
