Heat transfer in solids

I am trying to simulate radiation pressure and electrostriction force effects on the surface displacements on solid surface. In this I have to solve heat diffusion equation alongwith time dependent thermoelastic equation. I am able to solve heat diffusion equation by using heat transfer in solid module but I am unable to solve thermoelastic equation. Can anybody tell me how to solve and couple thermoelastic equation with this heat transfer in solid module.

Hello Monika,

Thermal expansion is a functionality found in the optional MEMS Module and Structural Mechanics Module (It is not part of the structural mechanics capabilities of the core package), so you will need to make sure your license includes one of those two. To check, in the software, go to File > License and Used Products. If you do have either of those products, you will find quite a few tutorials and videos to guide you. My personal favorites are this video: https://www.comsol.com/video/how-set-up-run-simulation-comsol-multiphysics and the busbar tutorial in the Introduction to COMSOL Multiphysics manual: https://cdn.comsol.com/documentation/5.3.0.316/IntroductionToCOMSOLMultiphysics.pdf You will also find tutorials including step by step instructions in the software itself under File > Application Libraries, and on the website in the Application Gallery here: https://www.comsol.com/models?q=thermal%20expansion

Best, Jeff
