Lumped port: connect ec to mf?

Dear all,

I'm trying to model a simple U-shaped copper piece connected to an electric circuit (ec) at the inlet and outlet (basically a short cut). I'm eventually interested in the magnetic field distribution, electric current distribution, ..., when I apply a pulse current to the copper piece.

I intend to use the following two physics: - magnetic fields - electric circuits

A static study is quick and easy (e.g. using coil feature,...). But I'm having a hard time setting up the model for a time-dependet study (afaik the study for pulse currents). First of all the single turn coil feature is not allowed for time-dependent studies. So I turned over to the above mentioned idea of using an electric circuit for current excitation and connect it to a lumped port. I tried to copy it more or less from the 3d inductor application example but I'm always running into problems:

1) uniform port type always tells me that I have not placed it between two conductive plates? It is an airbox between two copper plates, how can they not be conductive? 2) user-defined port type starts the simulation but does not converge (probably, the simulation just stayed at 86% for a good day, mesh was reasonalbe, currents low,...)

My problem is proably a basic lack of understanding for this interface. I don't see how ec would use it to identify a circuit with two input (Zweitor). Further do I have a hard time to understand the example set in the 3d inductor application example. What should the faces you chose for the lumped port interface represent?

Is there another way to conduct a time-dependent (3d) study considering the magnetic field / flux distribution around the body?

I would highly appreciate any hints or directions to look into. Thanks in advance.
