Title: When changing the value in the Expression cell in my table, the value is not updated.
Platform: Windows
Versions: 5.2a, 5.3, 5.3a
Categories: General
Keywords: Windows10, Windows7

Problem Description

I am running COMSOL Multiphysics on Windows, and when trying to change the value in the Expression cell in one of my tables, the value is not updated.

Solution

This issue in the Expression cells of all tables where there is auto-complete functionality enabled, such as Parameters, Variables, Derived Values, and Export nodes.

For Windows 10 it started appearing in version 1803. For Windows 7 it started appearing after installing Windows Update KB 4340556.

It manifests itself like this:

  1. Go to the Expression field in your table, and change the value written there.
  2. Leave the Expression field by either clicking with the mouse, or using the Tab button on your keyboard.
  3. The value reverts back to what it previously said.

If you are running COMSOL Multiphysics 5.3a, the best way to work around this is to install the Hotfix for COMSOL Multiphysics 5.3a Update 3. You can find it here

If you are running COMSOL Multiphysics 5.3, the best way to work around this is to install the Hotfix for COMSOL Multiphysics 5.3 Update 3. You can find it here

If you are running an older version of COMSOL Multiphysics, the best workaround is to install COMSOL Multiphysics 5.3a, then install the latest update, and finally install the Hotfix.

If you do not have the option to install version 5.3a, or if you are running COMSOL Multiphysics 5.3a and currently do not have the option to install the Hotfix, do any of the following:

  • When leaving the Expressions field, do so by pressing Enter on your keyboard.
  • Use the Expression text field below the table to change the value of your parameter.
