Band structure of photonic crystal

I have a doubt. Whenever we compute the band structure of a photonic crystal (phc), we obtain a diagram that is frequency based on wave vector but on the other side, refractive index of dielectric materials in phc's structure depends on wavelength (frequency) itself. How should we solve this problem by considering a constant refractive index? Should we consider this dependency at all?
