How to calculate the photonic band gap?

How to calculate the photonic band gap of TE mode with a frequency-dependent material using the example "models.woptics.bandgap_photonic_crystal"?

There are serveal questions for me as following:

  1. The nEz in example is expressed as intop1(realdot(ewfd2.Ez, ewfd2.Ez))/A. Why is the ewfd2.Ez rather than ewfd.Ez ?

  2. Why the freq1 is definded by useing 1[V^2/m^2]-nEz ?

  3. How to normalize the field when the electric field components are chosen "in-plane vector". Then, how to define the frequency freq1 under the GLOBAL ODES AND DAES? And how to decide the initial values under EWFD2?

Another question is that how to chose the boundary condition on non-periodical direction when solveing 1-D array.

Thanks for your answer!
