Computation of E-Field in Comsol 3.5a with AC/DC-Module

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi,

I am modelling a coil moving between two ring magnets. The whole setup takes advantage of axial symmetry. I have attached the model file, although without solution, as it is too big, as well as a pdf document with the relevant information.
The setup assumes that the coil has the ability to extend in radial direction, which is of course not realistic. But the discussion is not about whether it is realistic or not...

When modelling a moving conductor in a magnetic field, the relation E=-vxB applies, where E is the electric field, v is the velocity of the moving conductor, and B is the magnetic induction.

My problem is that when I display the E-field (phi component) that was computed by Comsol, I do not get the same result at all than when I compute E=-vxB based on the velocity and the B-Field that were computed by Comsol.

The last two graphs on the second page of the pdf document represent both situation of the E-Field.

What am I mixing up? Thanks for any help.

Regards,

Alois
