change particle charge

Hi,

I am trying to simulate particles traversing through a flow+electric field. Initially the particles are neutral, but at each time step, there's a possibility that it would charged by ions present in the field. I want to simulate this dynamic process, but I don't know how to change the particle charge number in the middle of the simulation. Could anyone give me some suggestions?
