Discrepancy in Results for two similar cases

I am trying to couple Poisson equation with Nernst Planck Equations. The system includes a metal particles which is located between two electrodes. Finally, I want to add one layer of another material to the surface of the metal. My problem is that when I add one layer of the metal, the results for electric field (imaginary component) and charge density changes significantly and it gives erroneous results. All the parameters and Physics setting between two cases are the same. Their only differences is the added layer. ( In one case, added layer is considered as the metal and in the other cases, the added layer is considered as the medium).
Would you please let me know whether this is a numerical artifact and where does it originate from? Thanks
