A good rule of thumb is to make the PML thickness equal to a few times the wavelength you are using.
cheers,

Actual thickness of PML domain is not important. Important is to place 4-5 elements through the thickness of PML domain. For better performance, used sweep mesh in 3D PML domain, or mapped mesh in 2D PML domain.

Sergei

Additional note regarding PML.
It is true, however, that boundary of PML domain should not be placed too close to the structure. Distance between structure and interior boundary of PML domain should be, at least, comparable to wavelength.

Sergei

Thanks every one.
Faced another problem. Now i am designing on hexagonal structure PCF of six air-hole rings and successfully
interface comsol 4.2 with matlab live link. The problem is that it takes a lots of time to simulate in Matlab when simulation is done in matlab.
Is there any procedure to reduce the time.
Thanks in advance.
