porous media flow using brinkamn equation, coupled with heat transfer

hi!
I 'm trying to simulate a porous media flow coupled with heat transfer between the fluid and the porous medium. To be more specific, the whole scope of my simulation is to reproduce the results of a journal paper written in 2013, where a cylindrical tank full of spherical porous material exchanges heat with flowing water, introduced from the bottom of the tank.
I chose the Brinkman equation to describe the flow of my simulation and the heat transfer in porous media module. The problem I'm facing is that the coupled problem, doesn't run. I tried a few things to overcome it, namely I first solved individually the heat transfer problem (steady state and transient). No problems appeared so far. Then I moved towards the Brinkman equation problem. Encountering the steady state problem was not a big deal, as I got my solution quickly. The transient one though, could not be solved. The problem seems to be my initial values. The journal paper does not clearly state what the initial velocity field is, and my guess seems to produce divergence.
Anyone available for assistance.
Thank you in advance.

Hi Jason:

Could you provide more details, such as the dimensions, the flow rates and maybe the paper you are trying to replicate? It would be easier if you can post your model.

Sri.
