Importing .x3d/.stl geometries from Blender

I have 3D geometries in Blender that I want to import to Comsol and I have been trying .stl and .x3d formatting.

The problem with .stl is that although it works, it seems to create a 3d mesh/shell instead of a solid in Comsol. I tried the knit to solid function and it did not work. My question is, will the geometry be treated as just a surface in actually calculations?
I have tried converting the stl file to solid mesh in bdf format and import directly as a mesh, but in that case I cannot have other geometries in the same component.... Also, the "import from mesh" did not work for the bdf mesh I imported. Any suggestions?

Since STL has only surface information, I also tried to convert x3d structures to other formats that Comsol can read. I used MeshLab to convert the structure to dxf format, but Comsol gave the error message "the file contains no geometry objects of the requested type". Any idea why this would happen is highly appreciated!
