Issue with friction force appliance

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hello, have a problem with friction force adding. Have gone to "Solid mechanics">"contact">"friction force". Have added this section, but can't choose the boundaries, they are not available for this physics appliance and every boundary has a status "not applicable". The same status has every "free" boundary. What can be the reason of such behavior?

Anastasiia,

Be default, Comsol selects all boundaries when you add “Friction” sub-node to the “Contact” node. Most boundaries are not participating in the contact and have status “not applicable”. However, those boundaries that are participating in the contact do not have this status and should be available for friction condition. May be, you just don’t see these boundaries – try to scroll down through all boundaries in the “Boundary Selection” section, , as shown in the attached image.

Regards,
Sergei

Thank you, Sergei
all the boundares have "not applicable" status. Is there any conditions when friction (or any other force) can be not applicable at all? Maybe when some other forceshave been already applied to all the boundaries/domains?

Anastasiia,

I never had such issue with friction at contact surfaces. It would be helpful to see what the problem is if you can upload your model.

Sergei
