plot 3D geometry using coordinates from experiment

Hi, there,

I am working on a project for which the model geometry need to be generated from the coordinates given by experimental people. For example, experimetal experts scan a sample surface and extract the 3D coordinates and store them in a txt file. Now, I wonder how to use these data to retrieve the surface of the sample?

It is very simple to do it in Matlab with the given coordinates. But COMSOL only can import STL or VRML format as I know for the menu. Then, I install a trial version of AutoCAD, but don't know how to do it.

Is there anyone can give me a hint?

there are a few threads on the foru on how to deforme a surface to the deformation of an analytical function, or a piecevise linearised one, search the forum. There are also the example of "Linus' Grandmother's Aplle Pie" presented on one of the previous COMSOL conferences
