This demo app lets the user modify the geometry of a corrugated circular horn antenna in order to optimize its radiation characteristics and aperture cross-polarization ratio at the frequency of interest.

Application LibrariesThe Application Libraries of COMSOL Multiphysics® contain models for each add-on product, a new part library for parametric models, and 20 demo applications that demonstrate functionality for building apps. The capabilities demonstrated in these apps include embedding documentation, generating and e-mailing reports, creating tables, importing experimental data, creating animations, and performing parameter estimation and optimization.

Beam Subjected to Traveling Load Demo AppThis demo application, created using the Application Builder in COMSOL Multiphysics®, simulates the transient response of a beam subjected to a traveling load, mimicking the response of a bridge when vehicles pass over it. The user can control parameters such as the spacing between supports, width and height of the beam, and the speed of the load. |

Tubular Reactor Demo AppThis app investigates an exothermic reaction occurring in a tubular reactor. The user can control material properties and energy inputs, and the demo app then calculates temperature and conversion profiles. When the simulation is finished, an email with a report is sent to the user. The app can be reached from the Application Libraries in COMSOL Multiphysics® or COMSOL Server™. |

Tuning Fork Demo AppThe fundamental resonant frequency of a tuning fork is calculated using this app, one of 20 demo apps available within the Application Libraries in COMSOL Multiphysics®. The user can either choose a target frequency and use the app to calculate the corresponding length, or choose the length to investigate the corresponding frequency.

Apps can be run from anywhere in the world and on multiple computers, can save the end user's input changes directly through the server, and allow colleagues and customers access to the simulation expertise of design and engineering teams. Transmission Line Calculator Demo AppThis demo app is used to compute the transmission line parameters R, L, G, and C, the characteristic impedance, and the propagation constant of a transmission line. The app was created using the Application Builder in COMSOL Multiphysics®. The user may choose from among several common types of transmission lines and generate a report of the results. |

Wavelength Tunable LED Demo AppThis demo app was created using the Application Builder of COMSOL Multiphysics® and investigates light emission from an LED, allowing the user to change the composition of the semiconductor material, set desired specifications, and generate a report from the results. The current, emission intensity, and internal quantum efficiency are given by the study. The color emitted by the LED is visualized with an RGB plot. |

Heat Sink with Fins Demo AppThis demo application of a heat sink, built using the Application Builder in COMSOL Multiphysics®, allows the user to investigate the amount of heat dissipated under varying conditions, including specified air temperature at the inlet and air flow velocity. Pressure loss and heat flux are calculated and the user may automatically create and e-mail a report of the study results. |

Concentric Tube Heat Exchanger Demo AppThis demo app computes some characteristic quantities of a concentric tube heat exchanger, including exchanged power, pressure drop, and effectiveness. The pipe structure, fluid properties, and boundary conditions can be changed. Frame Fatigue Life Demo AppThis demo app of a frame with a cutout evaluates the fatigue life when the thin-walled frame is subjected to a transient load. Red Blood Cell Separation Demo AppThis model calculates the trajectory of red blood cells and platelets in a blood sample as they pass through a filtration device. Ion Implanter Evaluator Demo AppThis demo application is accessible from the Application Libraries in COMSOL Multiphysics® and COMSOL Server™. The model considers an ion implantation system representative of those used in the semiconductor industry. The angle of the wafer, the molecular weight of the outgassing species, outgassing rate, and surface temperature can all be changed, allowing the user to investigate different designs. |
Chemical Demo Applications
Biosensor Design Demo AppA flow cell in a biosensor contains an array of micropillars used to detect biomolecules. The pillars are coated with an active material that selectively adsorbs biomolecules in the sample stream, which then react on the surface. The user may change the design of the sensor by altering parameters such as pillar diameter, grid spacing, and inlet velocity to investigate how the design affects the detection results. Manufacturing constraints are set by a minimum distance between pillars and reported in the application. This demo app has been created with the Application Builder available in COMSOL Multiphysics®. |

Li-Ion Battery Impedance Demo AppThis demo application, created from a COMSOL Multiphysics® simulation using the Application Builder, estimates properties of lithium-ion batteries by modeling electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Using experimental data as inputs, it runs an estimation of control parameters such as the exchange current density and properties of the resistive layer. |
