May 27, 2026 Villigen 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Back to Events Calendar

This seminar is an opportunity for both new and experienced users of the COMSOL Multiphysics® software to advance their skills in multiphysics simulation.

Throughout multiple sessions, we will demonstrate the capabilities and workflow of the software and guide you through hands-on exercises. You will also have the opportunity to get personalized feedback on your modeling problems from COMSOL engineers.

Schedule

09:00–09:30 | Welcome Coffee

09:30–10:30 | Introduction to COMSOL Multiphysics® and Highlights of Version 6.4

10:30–11:00 | PSI User Presentations

  • New engineering tool for neutron instrument design: "Cryomagnet Strayfield Impact"
Presenter: Lothar Holitzner, Laboratory for Neutron and Muon Instrumentation (LIN), PSI

  • A multiphysics workflow in COMSOL for design exploration of HTS stellarator coils
Presenter: Nicolo Riva, Proxima Fusion GmbH

11:00–11:15 | Coffee Break

11:15–11:45 | Magnets and Particles

11:45–12:15 | Optics and Photonics

12:15–13:30 | Lunch Break

13:30–14:00 | CFD and Heat Transfer

14:00–15:30 | Parallel Hands-on Sessions

- COMSOL® for New Users
Build a solid foundation for your modeling work. Learn the fundamental workflow and best practices for modeling.
Try key modeling steps, including creating geometry, setting up physics, meshing, solving, and evaluating results.

- Porous Media Transport and Geomechanics
Session for experienced users.

15:30–16:00 | Q&A and Individual Discussions

Depending on the interests of the audience, this content may be adapted by the instructors, and different exercise topics can be addressed (e.g., structural mechanics, electromagnetism, chemical engineering, heat transfer, or CFD).

Materials and Registration Information

We recommend bringing a laptop to the event in order to practice the new functionality right away.

A trial version of COMSOL Multiphysics® and its add-on modules will be provided to all registrants. It will be valid for 14 days so that everyone can continue working with the software after the event.
