Hello Khan,
Since your file dates back to 2009, it was at most saved with version 3.5a, see https://www.comsol.com/release-history .
Version 5.3a is the current version. It can open files saved with version 4.0 and up.
The same is true of version 5.3.
What you can do:
- If your file was saved in version 3.5a: open it in a more recent version, say, 5.0, and save it, then open that file in 5.3.
- If your filewas saved in a version prior to 3.5a, first open it in 3.5a, save it, and then follow the steps above.
With all that said, a lot of things have changed in the software since version 3, and there are often better ways of doing things now than what was available then, and some capabilities have been deprecated, etc, so once you are done bringing your old file up to version 5.3, you will need to carefully inspect your file to see if the set up is correct and optimal. If you know the contents of your old file and it is a simple model, it might be quicker to build it from scratch in 5.3 than to go through the procedure above.
Best,
Jeff
