Joule heating vs. ac/dc + temperature. Main differences

Hello,
I am using COMSOL 4.3b and I want to study a temperature profile within a volume due to Joule Heating for a defined frequency throughout time. I already did some problems like this, where I first define an electric currents study (frequency domain) and performed a time-dependent temperature analysis connecting both physics through the variable ec.Qh in "values not solved for" when defining a heat source. However, I noticed that there is also a "joule heating" module where I can do this type of analysis all together.
My question is: What are the main differences between these two processes and if there are any advantages/disadvantages of one regarding the other?
Thanks in advance. Regards, Nichal
