Time domain variables

Does anyone have suggestions on how to couple a variable produced by one time dependent model into a different model that is defined on a different time interval?

I am working on a time dependent simulation of two different physics types and coupling a few variables from model one to model two. One physics type is in model 1 and another in model 2.

I would like the first to simulate through a few time cycles before the second starts simulating and coupling with the first model.

For example model one simulates from 0 to 5 seconds and model two from 4 to 5 seconds. So basically the model two will actually simulate from 0 to 1 second but coupling will only occur from time 4-5 of model 1.
