cylindrical coordinate system

I have some difficulty trying to understand how COMSOL work with cylindrical coordinate system. Suppose that I have a unit square with the origin at the centre of the square. Then I have a circle of radius, say 0.1 centred at the origin that has different properties from the square.
Suppose that I define a cylindrical coordinate system where the z-axis passes through the origin. When specifying the heat transfer in the square, the coordinate system was selected to be the global coordinate system while the for circle, I select the coordinate system to be the cylindrical coordinate system.
Does that mean that the equations solved for the circle will be based on the heat transfer equations in the cylindrical coordinate system?
Does anyone know of any tutorials (not user guide) that explain the use of the cylindrical coordinate system?
