Surface discharge

I’m modeling wire (conductor&insulation). Conductor is grounded. High voltage is applied in the point on the insulation surface. Is it possible to simulate the surface discharge? If it is possible, how to do it?

Thanks!

Nadezda,

with the AC/DC module you can obtain the electrical field strength and see if it exceeds the breakdown field strength of the material anywhere in the geometry. You cannot model the dielectric breakdown itself and you need to know the breakdown fieldstrength of your material from literature or measurement.

Cheers
Edgar
