Running COMSOL remotely through Secure Shell?

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hello,

I am a new COMSOL user, and I have a couple questions with my specific situation:

My work has a COMSOL license and installation on a remote machine that I can access from my desktop only by a UNIX Secure Shell. This is so we can use the massive processing power on this other machine. Is there a way I may possibly bring a GUI window to my own machine even though the license and installation is on the remote computer, or must I use COMSOL solely by UNIX command prompt- sending it data, and it returning results? If the latter is true, I will need a lot some links or tutorials of how I would use COMSOL with a command prompt.

Dear Ryan,

If you can open up a port between the machines for communication, then you may find this functionality useful:
www.comsol.com/blogs/getting-client-server-mode/

Running COMSOL remotely, with the floating network license (www.comsol.com/products/licensing), and sending the graphics over the network is not generally recommended, since performance will be much more strongly dependent upon the speed of the network.

The methods for running COMSOL from the command line are described in the COMSOL Multiphysics Reference Manual.

Best Regards,
Walter
