Near-field magnetic field simulation of RF antenna

Hello,

We are trying to maximise the magnetic field produced by a loop antenna
driven at 300 MHz, at a distance of ~20 cm from its centre. We wish to
simulate it both in free space, and with a sheet of non-magnetic metal
(we have created a material with sigma=1.3e6 S/m, er=1, mur=1.004) inserted between our
test point and the loop.

So far we have been getting quite inconsistent results, with the sheet
having a dramatically worse influence on the field than we would naively
expect.

Does anyone have any experience with similar simulations? Are there any
specific ways to simulate the magnetic field pattern of an antenna?

Best regards

Dear Vlad,

without seeing your moel it is hard to make a recommendation. As a matter of fact, I would recommend one or two tutorials on loop antennas to exclude basic mistakes.

Vlad,

Keep in mind that though the metal sheet is nonmagnetic it affects the magnetic field by induced currents unless it is significantly thinner than the skin depth which is in the µm range for metals at 300 Mhz.

Cheers
Edgar
