compressive force as the boundary load

Hi,
I have a complex geometric mesh which I imported into Comsol via Simpleware. For all intent and purposes, the mesh model mimics one with 3 concentric cylinders, each of differing mechanical properties. I would like to apply a compressive force on opposite sides of the external cylinder (i.e. in the x and -x directions). How do I best do that?

Hi
you need the geometry to apply BC's (or is there a mesh dependetn BC in V4.1 ?). T
Then it's "just" to apply a value on the X component and multiply by sign(x) or -sign(x) depending on your need

The mesh was imported via simple ware. Hence, I don't have a geometry to work with. Is there a way to apply the bc directly to the mesh? I am using 4.0a.

Hi
No, you cannot apply BC to a mesh, in COMSOL you apply BC to the analysed geometry = entities and these properties are heritated by the mesh in contact with the different entity items.
You need to open your mesh in a V3.5a and save the analysed geometry, nad created geoemtry as a .mphbin file and then open it in V4.
I believe I have heard that this feature (to save a mesh as a geoemtry) might come in V4.2, but I'm not sure, I'm not COMSOL ;)
