Discretizing angular domains at Gaussian Quadrature points

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hello :

The problem I'm trying to solve has a 1D spatial domain that needs to be discretized as a normal FE mesh and an angular domain to be discretized at Gaussian Quadrature Points for cos <theta> belonging to [-1,1].

For each discrete angle, the system of equations for the spatial domain needs to be solved for the dependent variable(s) and another variable which is the weighted summation of the dependent variables needs to be updated.

What I'm actually trying to do is solve the Phonon Boltzmann Transport Equation (BTE) using the Discrete Ordinates Method (DOM).
For more details, interested can view a paper presented at the 2009 COMSOL conference at Boston.

I'm trying to recreate the results of the paper mentioned above. I'm not sure how to discretize an angular domain at quadrature points.

Any suggestions are welcome.
Thank you.
