Diagnosing poor mesh locations with residual plots

Hello,
I would like to plot the residuals in my domain either after a failed run (after it has reached the maximum number of iterations), after manually canceling a run, or every few iterations in order to see where in the domain the residuals tend to be highest. Is there a way to do this?
So far, I have only been able to view such residual plots after successful runs.
