Solve a cubic equation for initial conditions

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi,

I need to find my initial conditions before I solve my equation. The initial conditions at every point in the grid is found by solving a cubic equation where the coefficients are functions of the spatial coordinates and other known parameters. Is there a way of doing this in COMSOL? Can someone explain this to me clearly and simply?

Thanks in advance. Richard

Hello Richard,

Yes, you can do this in COMSOL. I am attaching to this post a toy model that solves the equation using the "Domain ODEs and DAEs" interface and then uses the solution of that equation as the initial temperature for a transient thermal conduction problem. Note the use of two study steps in the Study branch, each used to solve one equation.

Best,

Jeff
