Is it possible to model an acoustic point source (monopole) outside PML ?

Hi,

Is there a way to model an acoustic point source (monopole) outside of the propagation domain and outside of the pml?

In order to save some calculation time, i would like to have a monopole at a certain distance but i dant want to mesh the whole domain.

For context, i am modeling a microphone array in a spherical domain, I want to model a point source at a distance from the array. Is it possible to have the source outside of the domain so i dont have to mesh a sphere of 4 meters in diameter.

Thanks for you help.

This may call for an acoustic boundary element method. I think there are examples in the application library. Not sure about applicability of a point source though.

Hi Julien Sj,

If using the Pressure Acoustics, Frequency Domain interface, there is a domain condition called Background Pressure Field where you can specify a spherical wave. For this case, the source location (outside the physical domain) and reference pressure can be specified. See our documentation for more details: https://doc.comsol.com/6.1/docserver/#!/com.comsol.help.aco/aco_ug_pressure.05.008.html%231054320 .

Best,

Mark
