Rotating measuring point

I would like to rotate a (measuring) point over the surface of a cylinder. To plot the temperature as function of time. I can easily define the funktion for the coordinates of the point (x = r*cos(omega*t) and y = r*sin(omega*t)).
When creating a point, I have the fields x,y and z. I can't enter any variable there, I always get the message "Error 9161: Unknown variable". Can anyone help?


Explication: I have a bar, which I am heating with a laser. The laser is rotating around the bar. To get the maximum surface temperature as funktion of time, I would like to measure in the central spot of the laser.
