Mathematical formulation of the step function in COMSOL 4 and beyond

Hii..

Does anybody know what is the mathematical formulation of the smoothened step function that is used in COMSOL 4 and beyond. It appears its some sort of smoothened Heaviside function, but I am looking for the exact formulation.
