Opening COMSOL 4.4 files on COMSOL 4.3b

Hello,

I am collaborating with a peer and they have their files on COMSOL version 4.4, but I only have the 4.3b version. Is there a way to open COMSOL 4.4 files on COMSOL 4.3b?

Hi,

Exporting from 4.4 and importing into 4.3b via a Java file as suggested above *might* work, but there are two assumptions:

1. The newer (4.4) model does not contain any functionality not available in older (4.3b) version of COMSOL.
2. The features used in the 4.4 version were not significantly improved between the two versions. When we do internal changes of a feature, this is not necessarily visible from 'the outside'. The Java representation may have changed though. This is however not so common, since we avoid changing the API unless it is necessary.

But even if the import fails due to either if these causes, it is often possible to edit the Java file and edit or remove the offending lines. You could then import almost all of the model into 4.3b and then adjust it manually.
