The multiphysics capabilities of FEMLAB and the Structural Mechanics Module allows for arbitrary coupling of different physics phenomena. In the case of a piezoelectric actuator, electrostatics and structural analysis are fully coupled in a model of a piezoelectric ceramic material placed between two aluminum electrodes. The electric field induces a volume force in the ceramic material, which bends the actuator. |
