Using Quarter Symmetry

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi

I having problem using symmetry to simulate my model. For example I have a 3D ring and I want to use the quarter of the model to reduce the computation time. But how to use the quarter of the ring? Is it by drawing a quarter of a ring and then import to comsol or I can apply a quarter symmetry on the full model?
Thanks.

You can draw a quarter ring or import the full ring and cut out a quarter in COMSOL. You can do that by creating a block (at the right location) and taking the intersection of that block with the full ring.

As I am interested in mode shape and eigenfrequency, how do I define the boundary conditions? I have put symmetry boundary condition on both sides of the quarter ring, but I the results don't seem to be what I expected. Is there any role of anti symmetry here?

With symmetry you only get a subset of all eigenmodes (the symmetric ones only). To get more the rest you should solve again with antisymmetry boundary conditions.

Hi,
I have designed photonic crystal fiber. Now i want to simulated only quarter symmetry of the fiber for the less computation time. How can solve?

Thanks in advance.
