question about the plate vibration

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

I would like to simulate vibration of a simple infinite plate with out-of-plane partially side excitation. please see the attachment. I used PML at three sides except excitation side (I choose the PML thickness about 1 wave length). I found the results are not consistent. I merged a square in the plate. So, I can choose the average phase along the side of this square. It is found that the phase shifting from the average results of front and back side is highly affected by the size of the plate between PMLs. I think when I use a very thin strip to do the simulation, the problem is like a beam vibration. But when the plate becomes bigger, complex vibration modes will occur. However, physically, when the size of the plate pass one critical value, the simulated results should converge to a stable value. Do I understand it wrong or Can anybody help me to find what are the problems. Thanks.
