Cylinder Flow Dipole Tonal Noise Using the LPCE Formulation
Application ID: 149361
The dipole tonal noise generated by flow over a cylinder in free space is modeled using a two step hydrodynamic/acoustic splitting method. First, the unsteady hydrodynamic flow field is calculated using the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. Second, the Linearized Perturbed Compressible Equations (LPCE), a reduced form of the Linearized Euler Equations (LEE), are solved for the perturbed (compressible) fluid fields. This method is valid in the low Mach number regime.
The second step is performed both in the time domain and in the frequency domain computing the acoustic perturbations using the Linearized Euler, Transient and the Linearized Euler, Frequency Domain interfaces, with the LPCE formulation. In the latter case only the dominant Fourier component of the flow is used as source.
Results from the model show agreement with a benchmark case presented in a reference publication.
