Editing, Repairing, and Combining Imported STL Files with CAD
COMSOL Multiphysics® contains many features and tools that enable you to repair and improve imported surface meshes and create volumetric meshes for them. In this recorded webinar, we begin with a discussion of an STL modeling example and outline a typical workflow for generating a computational mesh. The workflow is then demonstrated to provide an overview of how to work with imported surface meshes in the software using the STL file from a computed tomography (CT) scan of a human skull for the jaw bone and teeth. The first demonstration includes an overview of the operations that are available for repairing surface meshes, editing imported meshes, and creating domains. For example, the Create Faces, Mesh Partition with Ball, and Join Entities operations are highlighted with explanations of how to use them to modify your meshes. Lastly, a second demonstration is performed to reveal the functionality for combining the imported CAD file of a dental implant with the edited STL mesh to accurately position the implant within the jaw, calculate the intersection, and generate a mesh for simulation.
