i am not sure whether you can impose open boundary or not. you may check the document.

hi,
yes, using convective cooling. h for free convection about 5-25 W/m²K. Or there is also a formula how to evaluate h for horizontal cylinder on free convection.
h ~ Fluid.temperatur-outer cylinder.temperatur and Diameter

Infinite elements are not suitable for this type of CFD analysis. If you want to model the air flow around the pipe you need to model and mesh a suitably sized block of air. If your interest is only the heat loss resulting from the air flow you can avoid modeling the air and setup instead a convective boundary condition on the external pipe surfaces as Akmal suggested.

Hi All,
i'm not CFD expert (never use special CFD simulation software). But as far as i know, comsol is enough to do CFD simulation. There are modules to simulate fluid flow. To simulate air flow around a pipe it can be easely done.
there is some example, google thermos_laminar_flow.mph.
Comsol mesh can also be adapted for fluid or non-fluid.
happy holiday
