Acoustics Ray Refraction in the Atmosphere

Application ID: 128681

This example model simulates the long-path echo of trumpet sounds reflected from a building 500 m away. The echo can only be heard at night because of the acoustic ray refraction in the atmosphere with different temperature profiles.

The model is solved using the ray tracing in the graded medium capabilities of the Ray Acoustics interface.

The example has three steps.

  • Step 1: Simulating the temperature profile in the atmosphere during the day and at night, using Heat Transfer.

  • Step 2: Simulating the radiation pattern of the trumpet bell using Pressure Acoustics, Frequency Domain

  • Step 3: Simulating the long-path echo using Ray Acoustics.
