Dynamic Grain Packing in a Flexible Container

Application ID: 149381

This model uses the Granular Flow and Membrane interfaces to simulate the packing of spherical grains in a flexible container, a procedure often found in the processing industry. In this example, grains are packed into a cubic container constructed of a thin polymer fabric.

Two packing cases are considered. In the first, the container is hanging freely from its top corners, and in the second, the container is also supported by the ground below. In both cases, the deformation of the fabric as well as the forces on the top corners, where the container’s lifting loops are attached, are evaluated.
