Shock Wave Lithotripsy

Application ID: 131611

An acoustic point source emits a pressure wave in water that travels toward a piece of glass. Cracks are formed and propagate due to high tensile stresses developed in the glass. A fully coupled acoustic-structure interaction problem including phase field damage in solids is solved in the time domain. Time steps are taken to resolve the wave, while the mesh is locally refined near the surface to resolve the crack length scale. The model is inspired by numerical and experimental results provided in a reference.
